Artwork
I believe that art can only truly be art when it is made by humans. The experiences and inspirations of people are what give a piece of artwork meaning and purpose. An individual is what makes an idea, a style, and a final piece unique. I believe that using generative AI to create artwork takes most if not all of the human influence out of it, leaving it meaningless, not representing the individual who "created it".
Can someone have an idea and have AI generate something that resembles art? Yes. Without a doubt. But there was no real creative process that went into it. Very rarely does a piece end up being what the initial idea was. When something just appears in front of you in under a minute, the happy accidents that take place or the different ideas that may change the entire direction of a piece will never occur because the "artist" wasn't there to find them or make those decisions for themself.
Each and every one of my designs goes from a dumb idea in a sketchbook to a workspace in Illustrator, and after going through many iterations, I land on what I would consider "done". Many of the designs you'll see on this site may not be the final version. I am always looking to improve and if I have an idea that may change an existing work, I'm not afraid to try it.
In a world where AI threatens to make many skills obsolete, art has given me a safe space. It makes me feel that no matter how advanced the technology gets, no one in the world, and especially not an AI, will be able to create what I can. At the end of the day, this art comes from my brain and my soul, and nothing can replicate that.
Website
All that being said, this website was built primarily using Claude Code. As a software engineer, it took me a while to admit to myself that no matter how hard I try, I will never be able to have the knowledge and speed that an AI can have. The only reason this website exists is because I was able to speed up the development process significantly with it. I work a full time software engineering job, so finding time to sit down and do more of what I was already doing all day was challenging. Using Claude to build out functionality for me has allowed me to focus on making the art itself and what the website looks and feels like.
